First Aid and CPR guidelines are updated internationally every 5 years. The most recent was in November of 2015. A small example of some of the changes that were made is that CPR is now performed slightly faster. Tourniquets have been re-introduced emphasizing when it is appropriate to use them and when it is not.

Occupation

Nurses, Firefighters, Lifeguards and other professionals are required to take a Recertification course every year. So know your industry and know when you must have these courses completed by. CPR Awards are good for 2 years in Alberta, First Aid Awards do not expire for 3 years.

Validity

A common question that is asked for Standard First Aid Recertification is; do I also get Recertified in CPR “C” and AED? The answer is yes, a completed Recertification will result in the same Certification as taking the original course again.


In need of first aid recertification in Calgary?

We Teach Lifesaving Society courses which are all approved by Alberta’s Occupational Health and Safety (OH&S). Approved companies and list of courses can all be found on the OH&S website. There is still no written tests for any of the first aid recertification in Calgary, we only ask for participation and effort in the scenarios we will ask you to complete. The First Aid training tests will be the same as the original course 30 questions for Emergency First aid CPR “C” and AED and 50 questions for Standard First Aid CPR “C” and AED.

First aid recertification in Calgary that keeps you prepared

The Requirements of completion for each course will be clearly explained at the beginning of each class. Candidates that are unable to complete the requirements for recertification must take the full original course again. However, ProSafe First Aid also makes a commitment to make sure all students that walk out of the class have their questions answered and trained to follow Alberta approved procedures and will give you the confidence to save a live if you are ever needed.
