First Aid is a valuable skill that is applicable in any environment. It provides people with the rescue skills to manage illness or injuries while accessing the need for emergency services. First Aid Training also has an injury prevention role. Research has overwhelmingly shown that individuals with First Aid Training are less likely to become injured.
With both of our First Aid courses you will also be learning and become certified in CPR level C and AED.
One of the reasons Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) is included is because CPR saves lives. Responding to an event in which someone needs CPR is the most effective tool we have to increase their chances of survival. There may be instances when it is unsafe to preform CPR on a victim. If you find yourself in a situation like that we also go over other effective responses. Even if your job site has a designated First Aider, over 85% of cardiac arrests occur at home. You should know how to react to give a love one the best chance at survival.
In the interest of clarity and also to review the information learned after you leave the course we will only be using words found in the given books that are yours to write in and keep. This will also make it easier to find the correct answers (ie the books and the test we use share the same vocabulary such as “Primary Assessments” we will use that when teaching instead of other synonyms)
We will be encouraging critical thinking during these courses which includes having candidates think of common household items to use in an emergency if their unable to find a First Aid Kit.
Alberta Workplace First Aid and legal requirements will be discussed as will how to properly communicate during an emergency. Discussions will also include the most common injuries Canadians and particularly Albertans face inside the workplace, at home or may experience during recreational activities.
